How many times in the past few months have you placed conditions on your happiness? How many times have you made statements like: “I’ll be happy once I get this promotion.” “I’ll be at ease when my kids start acting right.” “I’ll feel better once I get out of debt.” “I’ll be happier when my spouse stops taking me for granted.”
When you put conditions on your happiness, you are truly missing the point. True happiness does not come from outside forces; it comes from within. You can’t only be joyful when everything is going your way. Because, let’s face it, life will never go our way 100% of the time.
You have to make the choice each and every day that you will be happy regardless of what may be going on around you. Don’t allow any person or situation to steal your joy! One of the biggest things I’ve learned in life is that a genuinely happy person can enjoy the route while on a detour.
Stop complaining about all of the little things that aren’t going right in your life, and start rejoicing about all of the positive things! If you aren’t a pleasant person, winning the lottery isn’t going to change that. If you can’t appreciate the things around you, getting a job promotion isn’t going to make you truly happy either.
Remember, success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Be thankful for what you are now, and keep fighting for what you want to be tomorrow.
Have a great rest of the week!
