A couple of weeks ago, I was stopped by a mother at church. She immediately said, “Raven? I know you don’t know who I am, but you spoke at my daughter’s school.”

“Really? Did she enjoy the presentation?” I asked.

“Well, it was about four years ago, but you truly changed her life,” the mother continued. “My daughter was in alternative school, flunking all her classes, getting into fights every day, and being completely disrespectful towards me. I don’t know what you said in your presentation that day, but she came home a different person. She hung your picture up on her wall and said that you were her new inspiration. I wouldn’t let her have a Facebook page at the time, but she signed into my page and started following everything you did.”

At this point, I began to tear up. How could a mother be thanking me for a speech that I gave over four years ago?

“Since that day, Natalie* hasn’t gotten into any more fights in school and she brought up her grades to nearly all A’s. She’s a senior now, and she has been accepted into 3 colleges. You may not think that you had that much of an impact, but I honestly credit you for changing my daughter’s life. Thank you.”

The moment I shared with that mother was absolutely incredible. I literally went home and cried. I always say in my presentations that you never know who’s watching you, and you never know the impact that you can have on another person’s life. That particular conversation I had at church was definitely the epitome of my teachings.

You never know who’s looking up to you, so ALWAYS be the best version of yourself that you can be. You just may be surprised at the number of lives you can positively change.

Have a great rest of the week!
