Former Clemson Football Player Gives Back, Teaches Valuable Life Skills

on Monday, 05 May 2014. Posted in Motivation

When former Clemson linebacker Leighton Cubbage was sitting on the sidelines of Death Valley in the 70s, he had everyone fooled. Because he was not a star player, many fans wrote him off in the “Most Likely to Succeed” superlative category. Although his high school football domination didn’t fully translate on the collegiate level, Mr. Cubbage found himself immensely successful off the field after graduation.

DeAndre Hopkins: How Good Will He Be?

As a Clemson graduate who's obsessed with football, I definitely find myself checking up on former Tigers who are making the transition to the National Football League. One of them is DeAndre Hopkins. Or "Nuke" to us Clemson fans.

By: Kesha Christoph | March 22, 2013

Raven Magwood's The 7 Practices of Exceptional Student Athletes is insightful, helpful and motivating. Student-athletes are busy enough with school, practice, games, meets, homework, training, family and friends. Here are six reasons why you should sit down and read this book:

NFL Players Back to College

Cam Newton. Luke Kuechly. Michael Johnson. Jamie Harper. What do all of these high-profile NFL players have in common? Yes, they dominate on the field. But you may not have guessed that they are all back in school this semester for the off-season.

Some people may ask, “Why?” “Why are they back in school if they make tons of money playing football on TV?” I ask, “WHY NOT?” Why not finish what they started? Why not be good examples to the thousands of student athletes who mistakenly believe that an education is insignificant?

Three D’s, one girl and a long list of accomplishments and ambitions. Clemson senior Raven Magwood believes that dedication, determination and discipline are the sources to her success. She holds a calm and quiet demeanor in the classroom, but that just barely taps the surface of who this young woman is and what she has done in only 19 years.

2012 Savannah Children's Book Festival

on Tuesday, 13 November 2012. Posted in Misc

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to participate in the 2012 Savannah Children's Book Festival in Savannah, GA. The event was put on by Live Oaks Public Libraries, and I must say they did a fantastic job. I had so much fun, and I had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people. The event was not only informative, but entertaining. There were so many young kids stopping by for autographs that my hand still hurts! :)
If you weren't able to stop by this year, I recommend that you try to attend next year. You will have a great time. I promise.

Aly Raisman's Dramatic Olympic Experience = 3 Medals

on Thursday, 09 August 2012. Posted in Sports

I believe a movie could be made about Aly Raisman’s Olympic experience. First she advances to the individual all-around final with now-Olympic-champion Gabby Douglas (knocking favorite Jordyn Weiber out of the way). Then, upon competing in the individual all-around final, she found herself tied for third place. However, the unfortunate tie-breaker kept her off the podium and in fourth place.

Gabby Douglas Counts the Cost

The day that 16-year-old Gabby Douglas won the USA Gymnastics Olympic Trials, she became America’s sweetheart. Edging out Jordan Weiber (the favorite to win) by only a tenth of a point, Gabby was thrust into the national spotlight, even appearing on the cover of TIME Magazine.

Lebron Finally Gets a Championship

"Not One. Not Two. Not Three. Not Four. Not Five. Not Six. Not Seven." Who can forget Lebron James' famous words? I know I haven't. Ever since he was drafted #1 straight out of high school in the 2003 NBA draft, Lebron has been chasing his dreams of winning a championship. And he has been completely unsuccessful in that chase. Until now.
